Motion Math: Zoom App Reviews

Fantastic app for students

I am a teacher and my students love this app. It is excellent for teaching number sense.

Rip off

This app gives you about 6-8 unlocked areas at various levels. Then it proceeds to offer all 24 levels for an additional $2.99. Do not fall prey to this!!!! Stay away!

Crashing

The app itself would be great...if I could actually use it. It crashes consistently every time I try to open it.

Very Engaging

This app really makes numbers come alive - very cool visualizations.

Great introduction to decimals

I read a few reviews about how thus is good for younger students, but it worked really well introducing my 4th grader to decimals too

Future Addition?

I think it is pretty cool, except for the $3.00-for-24 thing. Also, I wonder what the app would be like if it introduced a millions and/or millionths place, or at least something cool like that, in maybe a future update to the app. Other than that, its fun!

I do not believe that this application would be helpful in an elementary classroom. Although this application consists of an easy to use, interactive number line that helps students develop a basic understanding, it does not assist students in developing a conceptual understanding of the content. I do, however, believe that this app would be particularly helpful for students who are struggling to understand how decimal numbers work. This app requires that students “zoom in” when placing the numbers on the line. Thus, students will observe how decimal numbers are broken up by tenths, hundredths, and even thousandths between the whole numbers. Despite the positive aspects of this app, I do not feel that it is worth the purchase (the cost of the app is $2.99). If there were provisions made to the app then I would consider recommending the app to other teachers. For example, I would like to see the option of a fraction number line included in this app. Additionally, one particular part of the app that steered me away was the non-mathematical strategy that students may pick up on when working with this app. When students are using the app, they drag the number bubble at the top to the corresponding slot on the number line. However, students can easily observe that the correct spot is the only spot on the number line that does not already have a number. Thus, students may simply drag the number to the blank spot rather than processing the numbers and understanding the number sequence on the line. However, if the app developers were to add multiple blank spots I feel that it would challenge the students to think about where the number is being placed and why it is being placed there.

Updated to "Lite" version

Updated to include locking of sections and in-app ads. Not what was originally downloaded. Will avoid this company in future.
